Microsoft strikes deal with national teachers union to not use school data to train AI

Microsoft and the American Federation of Teachers have agreed on legally enforceable privacy and safety standards for AI use in schools, including a ban on using student and teacher data to train AI models except for limited security cases. The deal also prohibits student tracking and requires human oversight of AI decisions, with transparency to educators and parents. The agreement, effective November 1, aims to fill gaps left by the absence of federal AI regulations in education.
