A study by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology reveals that AI agents consume up to 136.5 times more energy per query than standard generative AI models due to their multi-step processing. This increased energy use also results in longer response times and GPU inefficiencies. The prevalence of AI agents is growing rapidly, with hundreds of thousands already in use across platforms like Moltbook and Google’s web browsing.
