Apple's abandoned self-driving car project led to the creation of the Neural Engine, a powerful AI chip first used in the iPhone X and now central to Apple's AI hardware strategy. The company plans to accelerate development of the M7 chip with enhanced Neural Engine capabilities, targeting a 2027 release and new server products.
