Artists Want to Prove Their Work Was Stolen by AI. A New Study Says That’s Impossible

Researchers at MIT studied how diffusion-based image-generating AI models like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion create images, finding it's impossible to directly link outputs to specific training images. This challenges artists' attempts to prove AI theft of their work, as removing individual images from training data doesn't change AI outputs.
