Linus Torvalds identified and fixed a critical bug in the Intel Xe GPU driver that caused engine resets and potential memory corruption by incorrectly handling memory alignment for CCS storage. The fix prevents misuse of memory regions that could lead to GPU page table corruption and random screen artifacts.
