Shield AI and GE Aerospace completed engine light-off testing for the X-BAT, an AI-piloted fighter jet capable of vertical takeoff and landing without runways. The jet uses a refurbished 1990s-era vectoring exhaust nozzle enabling thrust steering and is powered by Shield AI's Hivemind autonomy software. Flight testing is planned later this year, with the jet designed to operate in contested environments and carry significant weapon payloads.
