US closes $1.9bn loan to restart the Iowa nuclear plant powering Google

The US Department of Energy has provided a $1.9 billion loan to NextEra Energy to restart Iowa's Duane Arnold nuclear plant, which supplies most of its power to Google under a 25-year deal. The plant, closed since 2020 due to storm damage, is expected to resume operations by late 2028 or early 2029 with increased capacity.
