A Japanese research team developed DeepLitterAI, an AI system that detects marine plastic waste on the seabed with 80% accuracy, processing data nearly twice as fast as humans. It uses a dataset of 12,000 images and advanced training to reduce false detections, enabling real-time monitoring of underwater litter.
